I drove up to Cantueso Cottages for the first time last week and the moment I turned into the driveway, I was sold.

The views over Lake Viñuela and the surrounding mountains just stopped me in my tracks.

But, what impressed me even more was the venue itself. This is a fairly new wedding venue. They’ve only just started hosting celebrations last year and they’ve thought about every single thing a couple might need for a weekend wedding.

Pueblo-style cottages (very typical rustic, Andalusian village houses) and apartments scattered across the property, an on-site restaurant, heated pool, exclusive use so it’s just you and your people.

Then I met Sander, the manager. He’s so genuine and welcomed us like we’d known each other for years. It is clear that he is going above and beyond to make this a spectacular wedding retreat. That personal touch makes all the difference when it comes to getting the treatment you deserve on one of the most special days of your life.

It feels less like a venue and more like having your own private village for a celebration. And right now, they’re offering exceptional pricing because they’re still establishing themselves. Which hugely works to your advantage if you’re planning for 2026 or 2027.

Why I Recommend Cantueso Cottages

This is a venue for couples who are open to a more intimate, unique experience. Everyone stays on-site, everyone’s there for the full experience and because it’s exclusively yours, there’s no feeling of sharing the space or competing with other events.

The views are beyond stunning as this venue stands above Lake Viñuela which you can see stretched out below, mountains all around and even a view down to the sea in the distance but, what really stood out to me is how thoughtfully this place has been designed and refurbished. The accommodation is high-standard and air-conditioned. The on-site restaurant means you’re not relying on external catering. There are two pools (one heated), so people can chill and enjoy themselves between events.

And because they’re still establishing themselves, the pricing right now is exceptional. You’re getting a thoughtfully designed, exclusive-use venue with a manager who wants to ensure your day is as special as possible, at rates that won’t last forever.

The Venue

The Setting

Cantueso sits in the mountains near Periana, about 5 minutes from town. The drive up to the property is when you first see the views. Lake Viñuela below, mountains surrounding you, glimpses of the Mediterranean beyond. It feels like a really quiet, relaxed getaway, which is exactly the point.

The whole property is being developed as a wedding and retreat destination, so you’ll see plans in progress for more ceremony spaces and additional cottages. Right now it’s still establishing, but that also means the owners are actively invested in getting every detail right. However, despite developments, it isn’t a building site. It’s perfectly clean and tidy for all of your pictures and décor.

It’s remote in a good way. Peaceful, quiet, away from the noise but, Periana is close enough that if anyone needs supplies or wants to venture out, it’s just a 5-minute drive.

The Pre-Wedding Dinner

There’s a mandatory pre-wedding dinner the night before, and it’s brilliant. €49 per head including drinks. That’s an amazing price, and it means everyone arrives, settles in, has a meal together, and comes to the wedding day already relaxed and connected. No scrambling around finding restaurants, no logistical headaches. Everyone’s fed, happy and ready.

Wedding Spaces

Cantueso has ceremony and celebration spaces throughout the property. There’s flexibility with where you have your ceremony, drinks reception and dinner with panoramic ceremony terraces, elegant poolside cocktail areas and spacious party zones. There’s natural flow in place that just works, but you have the freedom to create your own.

They have solid indoor backup for up to 35 guests, which is useful given the mountain weather can sometimes be unpredictable in certain months. For larger groups, they can accommodate with flexibility.

There are plans in the works for additional ceremony spaces as well, which will give even more options as they expand.

Accommodation

This is where Cantueso is really unique. The pueblo-style cottages and apartments are scattered across the property, giving the whole place that authentic Andalusian feel whilst also meaning everyone has their own private space. All of it is air-conditioned, decorated to a high standard, and comfortable to live in for a weekend, not just sleep in.

You can accommodate up to 50 people on-site, though they also work flexibly for larger groups. The bridal cottage is positioned separately, giving you privacy to get ready and that proper walk to the reception area. After the wedding, you and your partner also get a bit of extra space without guests constantly popping round.

Because it’s exclusive use, you’re not sharing facilities with other guests. The cottages are yours. The pools are yours. The restaurant is yours. It’s that whole ‘private village’ feeling.

They’re also planning to expand with more apartments and complexes, so the space will only get better.

Pools and Facilities

Two pools on-site, including a heated infinity pool. The heated pool is brilliant if you’re planning a spring or autumn wedding when guests might want to use the water despite the cooler weather, rather than just looking at it.

The on-site restaurant with exceptional cuisine means all catering is handled in-house. You’re not coordinating multiple external suppliers. They handle the food, the bar, everything. That simplicity is gold when you’re planning from abroad.
