Cortijo de Paco Romo was an unexpected discovery. I arrived expecting a typical wedding venue and instead found myself walking into what felt like someone’s beautifully restored home (which is what it is, to be fair).
Once a farmer’s cottage, now a thoughtfully restored Andalusian villa perched on a hillside with views that stretch down towards Nerja and out to the Mediterranean, it has been modernised but really sympathetically so it has kept its Spanish features.
This is a venue for couples who want an intimate celebration with their closest people and who want to spend a whole weekend together in one beautiful, convenient space.

Why I Recommend Cortijo de Paco Romo
The owners, Cecilia and her family, fell in love with this property in May 2018 and have completely renovated it whilst keeping its little Spanish soul intact.
You’re not confined to specific ceremony and reception areas however, the property has recommended areas for each that work very well. The entire property becomes yours so you are free to design how your day flows.
But the real magic is the accommodation. With 10 bedrooms, all your closest people stay with you throughout the weekend. You’re not rushing off to separate hotels. The morning after your wedding, you wake up still surrounded by family and close friends. That extended celebration time is something really special.
It feels like getting married and having an amazing holiday with your most special people all in one go!
The Venue
The Property
Cortijo de Paco Romo sits on a hillside just above Nerja with views down to the town and across to the Mediterranean. It’s close enough to amenities that you’re minutes from restaurants, shops and the beach, yet it feels tucked away and private.
The house itself is an Andalusian villa with Moroccan influences. High-walled, designed with multiple indoor and outdoor spaces. A library with a grand piano, spacious lounges with fireplaces (for cosy Spanish winter weddings), a wine cellar with an almost medieval atmosphere (this makes for amazing photos!), outdoor areas with different levels and views throughout.
There’s a large pool surrounded by gardens (ideal for a daytime drinks reception or a relaxed day-after pool party), a gym and sauna for those who want to stay active, a jacuzzi, and practical spaces like a BBQ area and paella station if you want really chilled, casual entertaining as part of your weekend.
Two fully equipped kitchens mean caterers have proper facilities, or if you want to prep some meals yourself throughout the weekend, that’s easy too.
Wedding Spaces
The front garden works beautifully for a ceremony. The views down to the sea are lovely and if you want to add flower arches or lighting, that’s easy to do. Tables and chairs are included in the venue hire, so you’re just thinking about how you want to dress them.
Drinks reception and dinner can both happen poolside or, in the garden. It’s relaxed, people can move around, and it is really close to the kitchen for caterers.
If you’re doing something smaller and more intimate, there’s a roof terrace with incredible views, but I need to be honest about it, the stairs are steep. So, it’s probably not ideal if you’ve got elderly guests, kids, or anyone wearing a bigger ballgown style wedding dress. There’s also a small courtyard inside the house that’s perfect for really intimate celebrations or micro-weddings.
Accommodation
Each of the ten bedrooms have their own colour theme. The yellow room, the blue room, the purple room etc. Each one is a really good size and decorated well and tastefully. It has been done in a really unique and quirky way.
There’s also a separate gatehouse with a bedroom, living room and kitchen which is perfect if you want a bit of privacy as a couple, or if close family needs their own retreat space.
Having everyone on-site changes the whole dynamic of a wedding weekend. People aren’t rushing to pack up and leave. Instead, there’s time for laughs, lazy breakfasts and celebrating as a group.
The Wine Cellar
I need to give this space its own mention because it’s so unique. It’s an underground passage that descends into a cosy seating area with narrow stone walls, dim lighting, that cool underground air even in the height of summer. It feels more like you’re in the basement of a medieval castle than a Cortijo in Spain.
If you’re looking for photo opportunities with real character and atmosphere, this space most certainly delivers.
What Works Brilliantly
- Intimate capacity means everyone gets proper time together
- 10 bedrooms so all your closest people stay on-site
- Flexible layout with multiple ceremony and celebration spaces
- Walking distance to Nerja town and beaches
- Beautiful views of the Mediterranean
- Unique wine cellar for dramatic photos
- Pool and garden areas for daytime entertaining
- Two kitchens for catering flexibility
- Full weekend gathering rather than just one day
What To Consider
- Maximum capacity is 50 guests so if you’re planning something larger, this won’t work
- Music must be indoors in the evening due to proximity to residential area
- Close to town and other properties, so it’s not isolated countryside but, that also means it’s easily accessible
